Some advantages of the nüvi:
- Small, light, compact, fits in shirt pocket
- Easy to use, without prior study possible manual, quick guide suffice; operation on the screen and only one button
- Clearly legible display, clear display
- Displaymodi for day and night (automatic switching)
- Touch screen operated largely without problems, even when a protective screen
- Many options for map display (zoom, details …)
- Clear instructions for navigating
- Route simulation possible (when folded antenna proposed)
- Many ways to target selection (address, favorites, “Home”, places of special interest (gas stations, restaurants, lodging, intersections, landmarks, parking, entertainment, recreation, sightseeing, local authorities, car service, train stations / airports, hospitals, GPS Coordinates input, etc.)
- Different modes of route guidance (car, pedestrian, bicycle, truck ..)
- System mode change suggests that if it is in the pedestrian mode, and then again with the car
- Statistics on the route can be show (max speed, distance, time …)
- Nice extras such as picture viewer, MP3 player, audio book mode, calculator, unit calculator, world clock, optional splash screen and icons for position display, voice and Guides retrofittable
- Bluetooth
- Built-in handsfree for mobile phones, SMS on the mobile phone to read, send, receive
- Easy Web Update (via USB cable and software)
- Relatively large number of maps included; wide range of maps for retrofitting (via Internet), including topographic (!)
- Complete equipment: solid mount for windscreen, Car, TMC antenna, mains charger (with 2 attached adapters: Euro plug and US / Japan (?)), pocket, card slot for SD cards (up to 2 GB) for maps, music, photos …, headphone jack, jack for external GPS antenna (but do not know whether it actually works)
- Nett: GPS antenna is in use the nüvi as MP3 players, etc. as a base for the oblique placing of the device used
- Long battery life: up to 9 hours according to manufacturer, depending on brightness of the display and volume of the announcements, in my experience are in practical use realistic about 5 hours, for short distances in the car so it goes without “cable salad” if TMC you can do
- Garmin Lock: protection by a PIN or “Sicherheitsort” possible (nüvi is only by entering the code or prospecting Sicherheitsort defined as the GPS position to be released)

Some disadvantages of the nüvi:
- Only printed Quick Start Guide, Manual on CD enclosed
- Audible instructions rather too quiet, no FM transmitter, for car radios with line input is possibly there to connect the nüvi possible (headphone output of the Navis use!)
- Handsfree too quiet, poor sound
- A few words of the announcements will be choppy, and therefore very unclear, for example, is to “hold” the beginning partly swallowed
- TMC-antenna integrated in car charger
- TMC-operation with external power: For this and the TMC antenna at the same time be able to connect the nüvi must be in the bracket are required, as for the mini-USB port on the device and that the attitude needed
- For route calculation for fastest route to low tolerance: The nüvi has me on several occasions too early a departure from the highway and ushered through any village streets clever, because it paved the way for cheaper held – and if I had a detour of five or six kilometers, much saves time; my Becker unit is much better
- No possibility of prior or subsequent storage of routes
- Satellite coverage lasts for a nüvi-break of more than two to three hours Very long (about two minutes) and then move only with difficulty. (For a short break, the track only lasts 20 to 60 seconds.)
- To notify software update the device is no longer reliable, when the battery is exhausted, then it turns out sometimes just

The bottom line, I am pleased with the device, but quite satisfied. I had first to buy a Tom Tom XL envisioned, perhaps in the route calculation is better. It startled me, but the higher price from the low-cost options (without SD slot) came to me out of the question. AC adapter pocket and you have to buy (!!), also have the Tom Tom in comparison with the nüvi somewhat bulky, the maps for my home town were outdated, the car holder provides little confidence from. However, I hope that Garmin perhaps a bit screwed to the software so that a more effective route calculation comes out.
